Beatrice (Ribak) Mandelman (1912 -1998)
Beatrice Mandelman in her studio
by Robert Parsons
and Ashley Rolshoven
Mandelman explained her Art: "It's like music. It either touches you or it doesn't."
"What I'm trying to convey in my paintings is joy, love, song, dance." "I'm trying to get life translated."
She said, "I'm an original. I broke all the rules.
I'm using a very primitive language—squares, circles, triangles, primitive colors.
And I made a very sophisticated art out of it."
In 1942, Beatrice married fellow artist Louis Ribak. The two then traveled by stagecoach to Taos where they settled.
