Melwell Romancito

Melwell Romancito (Melody Elwell Romancito) is a Taos, New Mexico artist whose paintings reflect a lifelong engagement with storytelling, place, and observation.

After a career spanning journalism, marketing, design, and technology, Romancito returned to painting full-time in retirement. She moved to Taos in 1986 and spent decades documenting the people, culture, and creative life of Northern New Mexico as an arts and entertainment editor, reporter, radio news director, designer, and writer. Through hundreds of artist profiles and feature stories, she developed a deep appreciation for the region's landscapes, traditions, and communities.

Today, Romancito paints daily from her home and studio in Taos. Her work draws upon memory, personal experience, and the distinctive light and color of the Southwest.
